The last flowers I sold in the shop. We used to make up the name since no one seemed to know it. One customer would ask for "simplified bird of paradise".
They're used in a lot of park landscaping. I have pictures of them blooming back in August as well. I'll ask the first grade teacher what they're called. She gardens with her students and seems to know a lot about that sort of thing.
