First, on Thursday Lee and I went for a ride after work. The weather has been incredibly nice and recently we haven't gone on a lot of rides during the week. Time to take advantage of the sunny but cool temperatures.
There's a section of the bike path that crosses through an old rail yard down near the harbor. I guess we haven't been in that area for a while because the last time I remember being there someone had planted a bunch of scraggly little seedlings and now they're bushy rows of cosmos flowers between the railroad tracks.
This picture doesn't show it but the place was really crowded with tourists. With it being school vacation all the regular touristy areas are now overrun with people. It's hard to maneuver the bikes through the crowds sometimes but the people watching is great.
The construction of the new building is coming along slowly. The outside work is done but it's hard to imagine that the inside will be done in time for us to move in at the end of March. This is sunrise over the new building. I took the picture from my current classroom looking out towards my new one.
The first graders harvested their first crops from their garden at the end of fall and their second planting is coming along nicely. Instead of vegetables they're growing flowers. In the foreground are eggplants left over from the first planting. They keep producing so they haven't been dug up yet.
The papaya trees keep sprouting fruit. I don't know when they get harvested but I hope I'm invited to that party!
For Valentine's Day the high school students bought each other heart balloons and decorated their lockers. It looked very festive and the elementary and middle school students were particularly impressed.
Here's my last random thought for the day:
It's a very cute little package of candy. Two tiny white balls of chocolate in a package that looked like a cat dressed in a kimono. It was a very heartfelt gift from one of my first graders.
