Things that I will not miss about Taiwan, Kaohsiung and KAS
So there's always the other half, right?

  • This goes without saying: scooter traffic. Smelly, loud and everywhere. At least in China most of them are electric, and therefore quiet and clean. Here they're just menaces that pollute. I get why people like them - I loved mine when we rented ones - but as a biker and pedestrian there is nothing good to say about them.
  • Another no-brainer: the pollution. It's easy to forget, now that the weather has changed to summer and the air has cleared, how bad the endless days of high levels of pollution were. I'm sure most of our visitors only have awful stories about the smog but when you're here long enough you see it all. When it's hot out the air clears up so that you want to breath it in, unlike winter when it's terrible. But of course, once it's truly hot, who wants to go out?
  • Which brings up the weather. I have turned into a heat-loving, humidity-tolerating person but it gets pretty bad here. During the summer, which pretty much starts in May and doesn't end until well into October, the lows are in the 80's and the humidity is too. You can only take so many showers in a day.
